The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is facing a severe overcapacity crisis, operating at a record-breaking capacity for cats and dogs. The facility, which is structurally designed to house only 56 cats, is currently struggling to care for 352 cats as of Thursday.
This represents 628% overcapacity for those cats and 140% capacity for dogs.
As Hillsborough County's only open-admissions facility, the PRC is legally obligated to accept every animal brought to its doors, regardless of its health, age, size, or breed.
Recognizing the urgent need for essential supplies to maintain the health and well-being of these animals, Professional Pets Florida, a local trusted Hillsborough County pet sitting and dog walking company, has stepped in to organize a focused donation effort.
Shelter staff are urgently appealing to the public for immediate help through adoption, fostering, donations, or volunteering to alleviate the extreme strain on resources in addition to filling their pet pantry for the public.
